On Saturday 2 July, Shildon Town Team participated in a meet up and clean up community litter pick within Hackworth Park and surrounding areas. The Town Team volunteers were joined by both adults and local school children in an hour long litter pick.
They managed to fill eight large bags of litter which included face masks, cans and used vapes, amongst other things. Shildon Town Team member Kathryn Mortimer said, “We were so happy to see fellow members of the community come and join us and the pride that the young people took in helping clean up their town was really inspiring. They were all asking when the next litter pick will be! As a Town Team, we have many events planned and are looking at all sorts of ways in which we can engage and encourage people to get involved.
“We have a larger scale event planned for September and details on this will be issued shortly. We will be planning regular litter picks across different areas of Shildon over the coming months and look to make this a regular event”.
