Spennymoor Town Band in competition success

Spennymoor Town Band
Spennymoor Town Band earned a creditable second place at the Bolsover Festival of Brass.

Spennymoor Town Band, conducted by Fiona Casewell, competed at the recent Bolsover Festival of Brass Entertainment, held in Shirebrook, Derbyshire.

With tough competition from across the country, the band was delighted to be awarded a creditable second place.

Hugh Stephenson, Vice President of the band, told Spennymoor News: “The Town Band have had some success at entertainment contests across the North East in the past few years, and it was our musical director Fiona, who suggested the band spread their wings and enter a national competition.

“The contest attracted over forty bands in five sections.

“The band’s age profile was one of the youngest across the competition with nine of our players under the age of eighteen.

“It was a great experience for supporters and all band members, especially Spennymoor’s Ruby Powton (16) and James Clarke (15) competing in their first contest with the band.

Hugh added: “It is the band’s intention to compete again at the contest next October.”
