Theresa Newell from Ferryhill, who recently celebrated her centenary, has donated her birthday money to Sedgefield Community Hospital as a thank you for the care her family received.
Theresa, who marked her milestone birthday earlier this month, kindly donated £400 to the ward to support patients.
Theresa has a personal connection to the hospital, as her late husband was cared for on the ward several times and also attended the day unit. She said she wanted to take the opportunity to give something back to the team.
Theresa visited Sedgefield Community Hospital with her daughter, Angela Turner, who works there, and her son-in-law, to meet colleagues and make the donation in person.
Louise West, Matron for Community Hospitals at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We were delighted to welcome Theresa to Sedgefield Community Hospital and would like to thank her sincerely for such a generous donation.
“It is incredibly kind of Theresa to think of our patients while celebrating such a special birthday. Her donation will help us support patients on the ward, and it means a great deal to colleagues that she wanted to give something back in recognition of the care her family received.
“We would all like to wish Theresa a very happy 100th birthday.”
Theresa’s family said the hospital had meant a lot to them over the years, and they were pleased to be able to support the ward and the patients cared for there.
