On Monday 18 May, Tudhoe & Spennymoor Local History Society will hear from Dr. John Banham who, following research for an exhibition at Bob Abley Gallery, will talk about the artistic influence of the Countess von der Schulenburg, who taught sculpture and drawing to local miners in Co. Durham at the end of the 1930s.
She tutored at Spennymoor Settlement and influenced Norman Cornish and other artists there. Her sculpture can still be seen above the door of the Settlement building.
Meetings are held in St. David’s Church Hall, Tudhoe Lane DL16 6LL.
Light refreshments from 7pm (£1) with the meeting starting at 7.30pm.
Visitors always welcome £4 .
