A brand-new Tesco Express store has opened in Spennymoor on Thursday 1 October, with colleagues busy welcoming customers.
Conveniently situated close to local schools and businesses, the Middlestone Moor Express makes it easy for those wanting to pick up essentials on the school run, grabbing a lunchtime Meal Deal or needing to replenish the fridge mid-week.
Among the features available are a wide selection of food-to-go options, an in-store bakery, a Costa Coffee machine, an ATM, car park, as well as InPost lockers and Whoosh, Tesco’s rapid delivery service.
The new store has also created jobs in the local community, with a store team consisting of eighteen colleagues, including fourteen who are new to Tesco.
Store Manager, Lisa Allen, says: “I’m incredibly excited to be opening and managing our new Middlestone Moor Express. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build a strong team, support the local community and create a friendly environment for both customers and colleagues.
“I joined Tesco 26 years ago and have been a store manager for 18 years across stores in the North East. I’m excited to use my experience to help our new team to develop at Tesco and create a team that delivers great customer service.
“We look forward to welcoming our customers into our new store and making their everyday shopping more convenient, as well as making a positive difference to our vibrant community.”
Local schools and community projects are also encouraged to apply for support through Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, with up to £1,500 in grants available.
The programme provides funding for healthy food initiatives, as the retailer aims to help more than one million schoolchildren access fruit and vegetables through its school and community programmes, run in partnership with the community charity, Groundwork UK.
Customers can vote for the good cause they want to support by dropping the blue token they receive at the checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store. Each funding round features three local projects, with grants awarded based on the number of tokens received.
Middlestone Moor Express is also participating in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food from every Tesco store to charities and community groups at the end of each day.
Since its launch in 2016, the Tesco Community Food Connection has donated more than 145 million meals to charities across the UK.
