Teen charged over weapons haul theft

An 18 year-old has this week been charged with the burglary of a house on Byerley Road, on Sunday 8th February, during which a number of firearms and weapons were stolen.

Ryan Lee Metcalfe, who lives just off Byerley Road, was also charged with a related matter of criminal damage.

He appeared at South Durham Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody for two weeks. His next appearance will be before a Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Simon Cowan of Durham Constabulary commented, “I would like to thank the Crier and the residents of Shildon who, through the publicity generated, have been a steady source of relevant information about the burglary.

“I would appeal for this information to keep coming, as although some of the weapons have now been recovered, a significant number remain outstanding and could be circulating the local community.”

Anyone with information should contact D/Sgt 341 Cowan at Shildon CID on 101.
