Saint John’s Church was brimming with romance on Saturday as Kevin Thornhill and his models displayed over 100 years of wedding design.
Kevin, part of the team who made the dress for Princess Diana, kept the audience spellbound with his tales of royal weddings, aristocratic elopement, and simple love.
Among the dresses modelled was a beautiful sheer silk dress worn for a wedding at Saint John’s in 1942 and made from parachute silk.
With designs by Coco Chanel, a replica of Kate Middleton’s dress and several Victorian pieces Rev’d David commented that: “Perhaps it is the enduring nature of love that makes weddings such a delightful subject.”
Organised by Adele Todd, Davina Tomlinson and Dorothy Truby, the dresses were but a small glimpse of a larger collection.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Kevin and his team back here again next spring” said Davina. The loud, long rounds of applause really said it all!
