Gathering together for a cuppa seems like such an ordinary activity but the pupils from Sapphire Form at the Sunnydale Campus of Greenfield Academy did their best to liven things up.
The students decided that having a cuppa with someone from the older generation was the perfect way to learn and planned a tea and coffee get-together full of poetry, speeches, humour and serious questions such as “did your generation work harder than ours?” and “does Nigel Farage speak for the nation?”
The programme was supported by form teacher Emily Robson and Revd. David Tomlinson.
Shildon Alive and the church congregation invited the guests.
One pupil, Abigail Charlton interviewed older guests, Pat Todd and Ann Sanderson, discovering that both had been beauty queens, and that Pat started school with a slate to write on!
Whilst thanking everyone for attending, Revd. David commented: “It is the sense of community that makes Shildon special.
It is a town where people are still interested in each other, and watching the way the young and old interact was a delight.”
Miss Robson mentioned that she hoped to repeat the exercise each term as the both school and the wider community were certainly the better for it.
