Shildon local, Sue Charlton, has completed a sponsored tank driving experience in memory of her partner John Hay, to raise money for Diabetes UK, the Prosthetic Limb Centre at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, and Shildon AFC.
The event took place in Dundee, Scotland and saw Sue take on a 15 tonne army tank, driving two laps of the tank track as well as take on the role of commander, riding out of the hatch directly behind the driver.
The money Sue raised will be added to the money raised during the 60’s charity night held at Elm Road Club in February.
Sue explained: “This has enabled me to make three equal shares of the total money. A sum of £750 has already gone to Shildon AFC and the other two charities will get the same amounts once all the sponsor money is collected.
“I would like to thank everyone for sponsoring me and enabling me to do the tank drive.
“It was such a fun experience and myself and my grand-daughter Ellie had such a wonderful, nerve-wracking time.”
