Shildon Railway Institute is looking to revive some classic spring traditions as part of their upcoming Spring Fair on Saturday 5 April, and would like to encourage folk from across the town to pick up the challenge and have a go.
A spokesperson for the Stute said: “Looking back, some of the fondest memories of this time of year are of the things you’d traditionally make or do in spring, and we thought we’d like to try to bring a little of that back into the spotlight.
“We’re running our Spring Fair a little ahead of Easter this year so we’re calling these our Spring Competitions and we’d absolutely love it if people would give it a go and submit an entry.
“It would be especially fun if these are things folk haven’t tried before, though it’s for everyone.”
With the exception of the colouring in competition, which is just for younger folk, the competition categories are open to entrants of all ages, though age will be taken into consideration in judging.
The organisers say they are hoping to put together a lovely display of everyone’s handiwork to be enjoyed on the day.
The Spring Competition categories are; best dyed egg, best painted egg, best Easter bonnet, best Victoria Sponge cake and of course, the colouring in competition.
A selection of prizes are on offer for the best entries.
For the colouring in competition you can find a link on the Shildon Railway Institute website homepage to access the colouring in sheet to print at home, or you can pop in and collect one.
The organisers request that those taking part bring their eggs, bonnets, cakes and coloured in sheets, so that they can be ready for the judges, between noon and 1pm on the day of the Spring Fair.
