A group of students at King James I Academy have climbed Roseberry Topping in North Yorkshire to raise funds for Butterwick Hospice Care.
The fundraiser was organised by Sixth Form student, Jessica Blakey in memory of her cousin Shane who passed away in August 2022 due to a disability he had lived with his whole life.
This year, Shane would have celebrated his 18th birthday and Jessica wanted to raise funds for Butterwick to acknowledge the support the organisation had given both Shane and his family throughout his life.
On her JustGiving page Jessica wrote: “Shane was a very loving, positive person despite the hardships he faced on a regular basis and he made an impact on anyone instantly.
“He lit up every room he was in with his massive smile and the amazing hugs he would give out.
“I like to believe that Shane would be proud to know that his memory and name has the ability to help raise money for a charity that was so close to his heart.”
Jessica climbed Roseberry Topping in costume with her brother, Daniel Blakey and his friends, Codey Austin and Lukas Kirby, who are all in Year 10 at King James.
So far, the group have raised £335 but the JustGiving page is still active for anyone who wishes to donate to this worthy cause.
