Kynren has celebrated a hugely successful start to its 2026 volunteer recruitment season, after hosting its first Open Call event.
The session offered attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic Kynren site, along with the chance to meet volunteer team leaders, speak to current volunteers and explore the wide range of roles available.
From performance and choreography to stage combat, costume making, pyrotechnics and visitor experience, the Open Call gave participants a true insight into what it means to be part of a world-class live production.
“The turnout was fantastic, and it was brilliant to meet so many new people who are keen to be part of our incredible volunteer community,” said Wendy Wilshere, Kynren’s head of volunteer casting and engagement.
“Every year, our Archers amaze us with their dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm. Kynren simply couldn’t exist without them – they are the heartbeat of the show.”
Kynren is particularly keen to welcome more families with younger children aged five to eleven, as well as more men, to join the cast and crew for the 2026 season.
No previous experience is required; volunteers receive professional training across a wide range of disciplines and become part of a supportive, inspiring and friendly community.
With Archers ranging in age from 5 to 88 and an impressive 95% return rate for volunteers, the benefits of taking part speak for themselves.
Following the success of the recent Open Call, Kynren has announced two further Open Call sessions in the new year:
Tuesday, 6th January 2026
Thursday, 5th February 2026
Each 90-minute session offers another opportunity for prospective volunteers to discover the role that’s right for them and to find out how they can help bring 2,000 years of history to life in next summer’s spectacular live shows.
Open Calls take place at Kynren, Bishop Auckland (DL14 7SF), with parking available on site.
