The parishioners of St Thomas’ Church on Byerley Road wish to thank everyone who supported the recent railway themed flower festival.
Special thanks go to members of the other churches in the town who submitted imaginative displays, which received many positive comments from visitors.
Members of Shildon and District Flower Club, as well as Forget Me Not florists, also created amazing displays.
Thanks must also go to Paul Merryweather, St Thomas’ next door neighbour, who kindly supplied pots of flowers outside the church entrance as well as many items of railway memorabilia.
Chris Lloyd, Deputy Editor of the Northern Echo read a poem about Timothy Hackworth, written as part of a book of poems in 1975 to raise funds for the parish.
We welcomed two visitors from Leeds who had come by train and who incorporated a walk to Brusselton after viewing the flowers.
Local MP Sam Rushworth paid us a visit, as did the local neighbourhood policing team, both of whom gave us a great write up on social media.
The event raised £420 for The South Cleveland Heart Fund and Teesdale and Weardale Search and Rescue Team.
