Over 60 teams from across the North East attended the St Mary’s Annual Tournament at Bishop Auckland College and St. Johns R C School fields last weekend, with groups playing at every age group.
President Tommy Kelly went along to watch the games and presented trophies to the players.
The Little Stars had a great day on Saturday with a wet sponge throwing competition, while the Under 16s Kings & Angels teams held raffles, tombolas and a penalty competition to raise funds for their Barcelona trips.
“All in all it was a fantastic weekend, with over 2500 people attending the tournament. We would like to thank everyone involved for making it such a huge success,” said a spokeseperson.
The club also had the pleasure of welcoming two teams from California to the region on Saturday 19th June. The teams played three other local teams; Aycliffe, Willington and Bowburn as well as St Mary’s Under 13 Aces and Kings and St Mary’s Under 15s. The results were very close with the St Mary’s teams just edging the win.
The two teams and 30 players are touring the North East, playing at Newcastle this weekend before heading home.
The players swapped mementos and medals as well as shirts and hope to keep in touch.
