Saint John’s Youthy were joined by members of Saint John’s Explorers on Wednesday 23rd August as the thunder rolled and the rain pelted down.
Setting off for Richmond where a day in the open air was planned many of the children commented that they were glad they had been advised to bring a spare pair of clothes.
The three minibuses splashed their way down the motorway to discover that in Richmond the weather was dry.
Splitting into two groups around 30 young people and children opted for an adventure walk, five miles of muddy tracks, riverside paths, and ghost stories, whilst the remainder opted to go shopping.
By the time the two groups reunited at lunch time the sun was shining and it with picnics eaten it wasn’t long before paddling began.
Paddling quickly turned into swimming as the majority plunged into the river with enthusiasm using a stretch designated for safe bathing.
As it came time to leave the spare clothes came in handy as the wet clothes were shrugged off, and warm dry minibuses were turned into changing rooms.
Rev’d David commented: “The enthusiasm in our children is amazing. If it had rained all day they would have still had a great time. They just love having fun.”
