On Saturday 30 September, Spennymoor Town Band, conducted by Fiona Casewell, were crowned Bolsover Festival of Brass Entertainment Champions 2023, reports band president, Hugh Stephenson.
The contest was held in Shirebrook in Derbyshire and we were competing against bands from across England and Wales.
We are delighted that our principal euphonium, Jak Camp was awarded the prize for the best soloist too.
In his remarks the adjudicator, Christopher Bond, said: “This was a stunning performance of brilliant quality from start to finish. Expertly led by the MD, the band showed off its brilliant soloists and super percussion throughout. I will remember this performance for a long time. Can I join your band?!”
We are obviously delighted with the result, once again putting Spennymoor on the National map.
Our winning performance featured ten players aged 18 and under, something we are immensely proud of.
