Spennymoor Boxing Academy is celebrating a sensational weekend after clinching three gold medals at the prestigious Teesside Box Cup, held over Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June.
The tournament, one of the UK’s premier amateur boxing events, brought together elite junior talent from across the country – and Spennymoor’s young fighters rose to the occasion in style.
Representing the academy were three rising stars: Archie McIvor, Lucas Sewell, and Macie Davis – each demonstrating exceptional discipline, focus, and heart in their respective bouts.
The action began on Saturday with weigh-ins and semi-final bouts.
Lucas and Macie were awarded byes straight to the finals, while Archie was matched in a tough semi-final contest.
He responded with a composed and gritty performance, earning a well-deserved place in Sunday’s final.
Finals day saw Spennymoor’s trio step into the spotlight.
Macie Davis led the charge, putting on an impressive display of aggression and work rate, securing a unanimous points victory and her first Teesside Box Cup gold.
Archie McIvor, fighting for the second day in a row, showed maturity well beyond his years.
With sharp footwork and calculated pressure, he dominated his opponent to claim his second win of the weekend – and his own gold medal.
Lucas Sewell rounded off the campaign with a measured and technical performance, controlling the pace of his final bout and bringing home Spennymoor’s third gold of the tournament.
All three boxers won their contests by decision, underlining the technical quality and ring craft they’ve developed through hard work in the gym.
“To take three boxers to a major national tournament and come back with three golds is a phenomenal achievement,” said Head Coach Robert Ellis. “These young athletes stayed focused, made weight, and delivered on the big stage.
“We couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Ellis also praised the team behind the scenes: “None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteer coaches, the support of our sponsors, and the ongoing backing of Spennymoor Town Council.
“It’s that combination of hard work and community support that makes success like this possible.”
