Song writing summer school

Cuckoo Young Writers are flying to Bishop Auckland this summer, in search of young writers aged 12-19 who want to try their hand at song writing.

Working with acclaimed singer-songwriters Martin Longstaff (AKA The Lake Poets) and Natasha Haws, the Cuckoo song writing summer school is a chance to learn about crafting lyrics and creating a memorable melody, and at the end of the two days there will be some catchy tunes to take home.

The summer school is totally free and open to young people who already write songs and those who want to give it a go; playing an instrument also isn’t essential (you can just write lyrics or get someone else to play them).

Following the two-day summer school, a Cuckoo Young Writers group will be established in Bishop Auckland, where keen young writers can continue to flex their song writing muscles with Martin.

This will culminate in a performance at Bishop Auckland Castle as part of Durham Book Festival in October.

The summer school will take place on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th August, 11am-4pm
