On Friday 5th December the very first Shildon Christmas Market took place in the town, thanks to Shildon Chamber of Trade.
The Market was open from 10am until 5pm along Church Street where there were many stalls selling ideal Christmas gifts including Christmas wreaths, jewellery, handbags, handmade gifts, plaques, chain mail jewellery, Glitzy Glam, hats, scarfs, gloves, beaded jewellery, personalised gifts, charity stalls, a hog roast and much more.
Shoppers were entertained throughout the day by Poi Spinners, balloon modellers, stilt walkers, a free fairground ride and live musical entertainment in the Town Square. Sunnydale School Choir and Fishburn Academy Band also performed.
The event marked the launch of the Shildon Chamber of Trade Shop Local Loyalty Card Scheme.
Owners of a card will be able to redeem discounts at a number of participating retailers. Just some of the discounts to be had include 25% off blow dries and upstyles at Fudge Hair Design, 15% discount on bedroom furniture at Hackett & Baines and 10% off paint at Davisons Hardware.
Loyalty cards will be available at all participating shops – including the Town Crier office – at £5. Look out for Chamber of Trade stickers in participating retailers’ windows.
