It could be looking a bit better for the Veterans Hub for the coming months, writes Glenn Gibson. It was great to see some of the veterans return and enjoy the craic.
In addition, Shildon Town Council’s new Development & Engagement Co-ordinator, Charlotte, joined the veterans and had a good discussion how to move the group forward.
One of these is to have a veterans / family picnic in the park for the August get together. More details of this in August.
As in the previous Hub news in June, to continue we need veterans and their families to attend.
The Resthouse is in a beautiful location overlooking the park with fantastic views. There’s space for children to play and dogs to walk which makes this an ideal spot to sit and relax, enjoy a chat and a cuppa.
Talking of cuppas, the microgrant that was offered to the Veterans Hub by NHS, Wellbeing for Life is being spent on bespoke coffee and tea mugs with their poster design spread around it, which will be used at the Veterans Hub and to promote the group at other events.
If anyone wants to help and support the veterans of the town and surrounding areas, please feel free to pop in and have a chat.
The Hub is also a place where veterans who need support can come and be signposted towards the specific direction for help.
Veterans can also be helped to apply for their Armed Forces Veterans card which allows discounts in a wide variety of retail outlets and eateries.
There are still a lot of things happening for Veterans in Shildon: the Shildon Branch – Royal British Legion (2nd Tuesday of Month from 7pm in the Institute) and the Masonic Veterans breakfast club.
So please come along and support the Veterans Hub and be part of something meaningful, help us support those who have or are still serving in His Majesty’s Armed Forces.
