Shildon AFC Under 15’s completed their away fixture programme with a convincing 9-1 away victory at Darlington TSC on Tuesday 19th April.
The game was followed on Sunday 24th by a massive challenge against Cleveland Juniors away from home in the Challenge Cup Semi-finals.
Against a team three divisions above them, Shildon raced into a two goal lead with McCourt and a Campbell penalty stunning the Cleveland side.
But the Juniors got themselves back into the game in unlikely fashion when the ball sailed in direct from a corner to gice Shildon a 2-1 lead at the interval.
However, Cleveland’s higher league experience showed in the second half when they quickly raced into a 4-2 lead.
But Shildon never gave up and won themselves another penalty with five minutes to go which Ben Mason slotted home to give the Railwaymen a lifeline.
“Sadly time ran out on the lads,” said coach, James Campbell, “and they will consider themselves extremely unfortunate to bow out at this stage despite being the better side on the day. But what a great effort it was from the lads.”
All is not lost, however as Shildon face Sedgefield at the BR on Thursday 28th April when a point will be enough to secure the league title.
Sunday 1st May then brings their final game of the season at Dean Street with a 12 noon kick off in a game where Shildon should finish the season in style. Please come along to the game, the bar will be open, and give the team some much deserved support where hopefully they can conclude their league programme as unbeaten League Champions!
