Shildon AFC’s unbeaten run was halted at an unlucky 13 when they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Whitley Bay on Saturday.
The home side took the lead just five minutes before the break from the penalty spot when Callum Larmouth converted the first of a brace.
If his second, in the 51st minute hadn’t put the game beyond the visitors, a third on the hour from Alfa Djalo made certain the Railwaymen would be returning home empty handed.
And with their main title challengers all picking up points, the defeat sees Shildon slip to fourth in the table, albeit with games in hand, but now nine points adrift of leaders Redcar Athletic.
Shildon’s chance to make up some ground was scuppered in midweek when their fixture at West Auckland on Tuesday night was postponed due to a floodlight issue.
The Railwaymen remain on the road and visit North Shields on Saturday before hosting Alnwick next midweek in a rearranged League Cup Third Round tie, moved from 18 to 11 February.
