A recently established roller skating club which has attracted some Shildon talent is set to expand.
The club has been rolling for under a year and in January held their very first show.
Two local girls, who regularly give up their time to help coach roller skating, were stars of the show.
The club, based in Willington, has grown in numbers since starting lessons, and will now make a new venture and start up coaching at Planet Leisure in Newton Aycliffe too.
Sharday Smith and Nicola Stevens, both from Shildon, alongside Tracy Stevens help train the young people, aged between 4 and 16. They recently showed off their own skills in a Disney inspired show, skating alongside their team.
The large audience were wowed by the beauty of artistic roller skating. “Skating takes me to another world and helps me to forget everything else,” said Sharday, aged 15.
“Roller skating may seem retro but it’s certainly not a thing of the past,” said coach Tracy Stevens, who learned how to roller skate at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon.
Tracy continued, “We set the club up less than a year ago but already we have children ready to embark at competitive level.
“The club is currently fundraising and aims to compete in July. We hope people of Shildon will support our talent and they can do this by signing up to easyfundraising.org.uk.
“When people shop online the company will send a donation to our skating club. The money raised will cover costs of team transport and uniform as well as registration and competition fees.”
