Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team PCSOs, Holly Cowton and Jordan Bayles have been honoured at a special reception at Downing Street for their part in saving a man’s life.
The pair were invited to an event hosted by security minister, Tom Tugendhat in December, which celebrated the work of community champions across the country.
The PCSOs were wrapping up a scene preservation earlier this year when a panicked member of the public approached them reporting a man in the street fitting.
Both Holly and Jordan rushed to the scene to find the man unresponsive and appearing to have a seizure.
Their training kicked in and, after establishing that the man was breathing, they put him in the recovery position while also calling an ambulance.
With help from staff in the ambulance control room, the duo located the nearest defibrillator and then started CPR as the man’s health had deteriorated further.
Thankfully paramedics arrived minutes later and rushed the man to hospital.
After being put on life support in intensive care, he pulled through and was eventually discharged home.
Their bravery and quick-thinking actions were recognised by the local MP, Dehenna Davison, who invited them to the Local Community Safety Champions’ Reception at Downing Street in early December.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “We’re so proud of PCSOs Holly and Jordan, whose lifesaving efforts were honoured at a special reception at Downing Street.
“Well done guys.”
