Preparations are well underway for celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the building of Shildon Methodist Church. Events will take place over the weekend of 9-11 October, with a special Preview Evening on Thursday, 8 October for local dignitaries, businesses, sponsors and representatives from sister churches.
Over the weekend there will be a Flower Festival with 25-30 flower displays inside and outside the church and hall. Kathryn Hume from Shildon based Forget Me Not Flower Designers and Flower School is leading on the planning of the festival, giving her time free of charge.
We estimate there will be around £2,500 spent on flowers and materials for the displays. We will be contacting local schools, organisations and businesses over the coming weeks to invite them to be part of the design and theme of arrangements.
Individuals and organisations can sponsor or part sponsor a display. Please contact the church office at shildonmethodist2010[@]hotmail[.]co[.]uk if you are interested in helping with this.
On Saturday, 10 October, there will be 16 tables of Lego displays in the hall from members of the Brick Alley Lego User Group. There will be a children’s area where they can build their own Lego models and other activities.
Refreshments will be on sale in the hall, provided by church members and friends. Also in the hall will be a display celebrating 50 years of events and activities in the church building. There will be a memory tree where visitors can place a memory of an event or loved one.
The weekend will conclude on Sunday with an invitation to all to join with us for Celebratory Worship at 10.30am and a final opportunity to visit the flower festival.
If you have any memories, photographs etc of events and activities at Shildon Methodist Church over the past 50 years you are willing to share please contact the church office.
