Preparations are well advanced for celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the building of Shildon Methodist Church. Our Timetable for the Weekend (subject to change) is:
Thursday, 8 October – 7.00pm to 9.00pm – There will be special Preview Evening of the Golden Years Flower Festival with non-alcoholic wine and nibbles. Our local MP, Sam Rushworth, has accepted an invitation to be our special guest and open the event. Businesses and individuals who have sponsored the weekend and/or flower displays will be invited to come along free of charge. There will be a limited number of tickets for sale at a cost of £5.00 for others who wish to come along. More information will be made available nearer the time.
Friday, 9 October – 10.00am to 4.00pm – The Golden Years Flower Festival will be open to everyone. Entry will be by programme at a cost of £2.00. Only 1 programme will be required for each couple/family group. There will be flower displays in both the church and hall, and our church display of people and events over the last 50 years will be available in the hall. Refreshments will be on sale in the hall.
Saturday, 10 October – 10.00am to 4.00pm – The Golden Years Flower Festival will continue to be open to everyone, as will our church display. The Blooming Bricks Lego display will take place in the hall. Entry to the Lego display will be free of charge. There will be fabulous displays and an area for children, young people and adults to have a go at building some of their own creations. Refreshments will be on sale in the hall.
Sunday, 11 October
10.30am – Celebratory Worship in the church led by Revd Peter Catford.
12.00pm to 4.00pm – A last chance for the public to see the Golden Years Flower Festival. Refreshments on sale in the hall, together with the church display.
4.00pm onwards – Flower auction where everyone will have a chance to purchase flowers/displays.
Sponsor a display
We are inviting church members and friends to sponsor or part sponsor a display (each display will cost around £100). Displays can be sponsored in the name of a business or organisation, or can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one.
