Fourteen year-old Luke Evans, from Claredon Court, Shildon, was the only boy selected from his year at Sunnydale School to play football for the District. He was also the only player to be chosen from 15 other local schools.
Luke, who also plays for St. Mary’s Under 14s, played for the District at Whitworth, Spennymoor at the weekend, with his team winning 11 – 1.
Last season, Luke played for St. Mary’s Under 13s in a cup final against Billingham.
His team won 4 – 2 and Luke was awarded man-of-the-match.
