The exhibition marking the 125th anniversary of Shildon’s Dean Street ground has ended early.
Visitor numbers had fallen to a trickle and Old Shildon Workmen’s Club, where the event was held, had need of the room for several other functions. During its ten-day tenure, however, the exhibition was much appreciated and more than doubled the number of “Friends” of DAFT, taking the total to around 100. All new Friends will have their names entered into a draw to win a framed print of 1950s boys bunking over the Dean Street fence. The winner of that will be announced shortly.
A spokesman for DAFT expressed disappointment that the exhibition had had to close early. “A huge amount of work went into it and we had tremendous help from the football club, the workmen’s club and others. We also attracted very welcome sponsorship. A lot of people have enjoyed the exhibition but it seems to have run its course. We hope to continue working with Shildon FC and would still greatly welcome new Friends or, better yet, committee members.”
