Shildon AFC came away from Heritage Park on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August with all three points and the derby day bragging rights after a 3 – 2 dramatic win over local rivals Bishop Auckland.
In a tetchy, disjointed encounter, the game was littered with niggling stoppages.
On 32 minutes Bishop’s keeper Scott Pocklington had to leave the field with a dislocated finger after what looked like an innocuous save from a weak Lewis Wing free kick.
With no substitute keeper, ex-Shildon player John Jury was forced to go between the sticks.
On 43 minutes Bishop’s took the lead when a long through ball found No 9 Andrew Johnson who fired into the roof of the net.
Half Time: Bishop Auckland 1 Shildon AFC 0
Straight from the restart Paul Connor put Micky Rae clean through but he somehow missed the target with the goal at his mercy.
Just after the hour Bishop’s No 10 Ian Ward felled Daniel Moore in the box for Anth Bell to score from the spot for 1 – 1.
Minutes later a great header from Micky Rae was brilliantly saved by the stand-in keeper.
On 66 minutes the Railwaymen took the lead when Anth Bell fired low into the bottom corner.
The game was not over, however, and the Two Blues looked to have rescued a point when Johnson stabbed home an equaliser after a scramble in the box with just six minutes remaining.
But it was to be Shildon’s day when, with 88 minutes on the clock, Mickey Rae rose to head home Shildon’s best move of the afternoon.
Final Score: Bishop Auckland 2 Shildon AFC 3
Goalscorers: Bell 61, 66, Rae 88.
