Further match postponements as a result of the recent wet weather have continued to frustrate Shildon AFC’s attempts to build momentum on the back of a vital Boxing Day win at North Shields.
And this weekend’s match is no exception. The Railwaymen will be hoping the rain eases ahead of the scheduled home tie against Brighouse Town, which begins a run of three home games.
However, a pitch inspection will take place at 10am on matchday to determine if the game can go ahead.
The Railwaymen remain in the automatic relegation places, but the confidence-boosting come-from-behind win at the home of The Robins saw the side gain ground on their rivals for the drop.
It was Shildon’s first game in more than a month and the side has now suffered a further two postponements, with last Saturday’s game at Dunston and this midweek’s trip to Sheffield both falling foul of the weather.
Alongside the first game in February at Carlton Town, they could go some way to deciding Shildon’s destiny this season.
The West Yorkshire side, currently in ninth place in the division, travel north for the reverse fixture, having beaten Shildon 3-0 at their St Giles Road ground in September.
Depending on results elsewhere, victory could see Shildon climb out of the bottom two, where they have spent most of the first half of the season.
Grantham Town, who are two points above Shildon, but have played a game more, face a tricky visit to seventh place Grimsby Borough.
Meanwhile, Carlton Town, who are fourth bottom and three points ahead of Shildon, but who have also played a game more, face a trip to third place Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Grantham and Carlton then face each other the following weekend when Hebburn Town, and Shildon’s former management team of Daniel Moore and Mark Hudson, visit Dean Street.
