Despite a few initial problems, Shildon Alive fundraiser turned out to be a major success filled with laughter, singing and fun.
After all the advertising, ticket sales, excitement and anticipation, the fundraiser, in support of Holly Lodge, found itself with a problem.
Ian James, the billed singer, was ill at the last minute with a throat infection.
However, all was not lost as Cassandra Bowtell from Newton Aycliffe stepped in to save the day.
Supported by Georgia Jaye and friends, the evening was packed with laughter, song and bingo.
Cassandra performed a well received collection of popular songs with the kind of style that has made her much sought after on the club circuit.
Georgia spoke movingly of her grandmother and paid tribute to Holly Lodge and the care they provide today.
The bingo was called by Andrew Farlow one of Shildon Alive’s management team with the kind of aplomb normally seen in professionals.
Astonishingly, of the four games played the same lucky player won three!
Shildon Alive is a Saint John’s Church project and is committed to seeing abundant life break out across this community.
Rev’d David commented: “Seeing residents of Holly Lodge dancing in wheelchairs, faces creased with smiles has been a delight.
“The £316 raised for the residents fund by the event was amazing but the happiness that just filled the room was better still.
“Thank you to all our amazing staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this a great event!”
