Shildon Supporters Club has granted funds to seven local groups in the latest round of funding from its weekly lottery.
The club invited the groups, in partnership with the football club, for a complimentary matchday experience on Saturday 28th March when the football club took on Penrith AFC in a Northern League tie.
Representatives from The Tearaways Theatre Group, Waverley Terrace Allotments, St Thomas RC Church, Shildon Horticultural Show, The Monday Club, 2nd Shildon Guides and Shildon Railway Cricket Juniors (under 13’s) were able to collect cheques totalling more than £850 in grants for local projects.
The aims of the Supporters Club lottery are to raise funds for the supporters club and the football club, and to award small grant funding to local groups.
Since the lottery began the supporters club has now awarded £2,880 in grant funding to more than twenty local groups while £7,200 has been distributed in prize money.
The lottery is played weekly with tickets costing £2. The jackpot, which begins at £400, rises by £50 each week until it is won.
Twenty percent of the prize fund is set aside for local causes and distributed at regular intervals throughout the year.
