Shildon AFC drop vital points

Shildon AFC dropped two more vital points on Saturday 29th March when they were held to a goalless draw at Guisborough Town. With both Spennymoor and Celtic Nation winning their games, Shildon’s dreams of winning the title took a set back. Third placed Spennymoor are only two points behind the Railwaymen but have three games in hand. Top of league Celtic Nation are six points ahead of Shildon, but they have played three more games.

The game was an evenly matched affair and a draw was a fair result, with both teams missing chances. First Town’s No 9 Michael Roberts beat the keeper but Darren Craddock made a brilliant block. Just before the break Lee Scroggins hit the bar and Paul Connor shot just wide. Early in the 2nd half Shildon’s keeper Lewis Graham made a fine save from Michael Roberts, and with 10 minutes remaining Shildon’s John Brackstone cleared the ball off the line, with the keeper beaten.

Full Time: Guisborough Town 0 Shildon AFC 0.

Man-of-the-Match: Lee Scroggins.

After the match manager Gary Forrest said, “This was a good point as Guisborough are a good side. We kept a clean sheet, but to be fair our strikers never got going in the final third.
“We still have a chance to lift the title but we cannot afford to drop any more points”.
