Spennymoor Town FC experienced contrasting results this week, thumping second bottom Rushall Olympic 7-0 at The Brewery Field on Saturday before going down to a narrow 1-0 defeat away at second top Chorley in midweek.
The results leave Moors in mid-table, seven points adrift of the playoff places.
Hat-tricks from both Glen Taylor and Corey McKeown, as well as a thunderous effort from Rob Ramshaw, saw Moors thump National League North strugglers Rushall Olympic.
The Pics arrived in County Durham on the back of a three-game winning streak which had taken them to the brink of climbing out of the bottom four, but they were ruthlessly torn apart by Graeme Lee’s men on a memorable afternoon for Moors fans.
The celebrations were short-lived, however, as Dan Mooney’s debut goal just nine minutes from time was enough to secure the three points for Chester as Moors returned home empty handed from The Deva Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Graeme Lee’s men suffered a blow before kick-off when Ben Beals picked up an injury in the warm-up, meaning the only change from Saturday’s win saw Nathan McGinley come in at centre-back, while Callum Ross returned to the bench after illness.
Moors tried hard to snatch an equaliser at the death, but Storer and his defence were quick to stub out any real threat to The Seals’ 1-0 advantage.
It was a tough defeat to take for Moors following such an emphatic performance against Rushall Olympic.
Focus now turns to the weekend’s long distance away fixture at Brackley Town.

Graeme Lee’s men have made it through to the last 16 and things will start to get very exciting if they can find a way past The Pilgrims.
