Search is on for Shanty Singers

The Auckland Shanty Singers perform at venues across the county and further afield.

The Auckland Shanty Singers, who perform at venues across County Durham and Darlington, including in Bishop Auckland, are looking for more recruits to join them.

All are welcome, there’s no audition, and it’s easy to learn. You can find your voice with a bunch of people willing to support you.

The group rehearses every Monday night in the concert room at Elm Road Club, Shildon and love to entertain with sea shanties anywhere, be it clubs, pubs, festivals, ships, highways and byways. You can also join ther pirate nights and workshops.

“We are always happy to support local charities, collaborate with other singers and musicians,” said group founder, Christopher Miller.

“Recently we were at Robin Hood’s Bay Victorian Weekend and performed a Pirate Night at Shildon’s Cape to Cairo restaurant.

“Our Facebook page has tons more information on what we do.”

You can also ring Chris for a chat on 07720 977670 if you are interested or have any questions.

The next local event is a Shanty Pirate Night in Bishop Auckland at the Caps Off micro brewery, Unit 4 Century Court, Henson Close in South Church on Saturday 10 February, at 6.30pm for 7pm.
