Behind the scenes, Ferryhill Athletic FC’s committee are working hard in their search for a permanent new ground for the club.
Whilst they are very happy to play at Dean Bank Recreation ground, there are particular access problems and there is limited space to develop the ground by adding new stands and floodlights.
The old ground on Darlington Road has also been ruled out due to access problems from the A167.
There has been a lot of support for this option as many supporters hark back to the good old days, but at this stage it is a most unlikely to happen.
An alternative is Mainsforth, which has a very large footprint, but teams are already playing there, so the search goes on.
The Club has sought advice from an experienced Project Management company and have produced a very brief summary of what they are looking at which includes a stadium which is National Ground Grading Category H and includes a 9v9 size floodlit 3G pitch.
The location is still very much under wraps, but a statement is expected to be made the end of the year.
