Spennymoor Town Council is delighted to share that it has recently granted 3 local residents Scrolls of Honour for their outstanding work in the community.
The Scroll of Honour is the highest award and reserved for those individuals or groups who have demonstrated an outstanding and noteworthy contribution to the well-being and benefit of society and/or in their field of endeavour.
Julie Wilson was nominated for her tireless voluntary work. Not only is she a member of Spennymoor’s Gala Committee, she is a volunteer in Jubilee Park’s Park Run and is also a member of the Spennymoor Litter Pickers team.
Amanda Molloy was nominated for her dedication to the annual Poppy Appeal since her appointment in 2014. She is also a community fundraiser and volunteer. Amanda’s nominator described her as, “a great example of a proactive member of the community who gives of her time and skills to make life better for everyone….”.
The third recipient was Anita Goundry, who is a trustee and Committee member of Binchester Community Centre. She is also the vice-chair of the Spennymoor Banner Group and is very heavily involved in Dementia awareness, working alongside universities and prisons, delivering training sessions and public speaking.
The Town Mayor, Cllr Liz Maddison, presented all 3 nominees with a Scroll at a recent full Council meeting and said, “We are fortunate in Spennymoor to have many community organisations and dedicated individuals who volunteer freely to help others, covering every aspect of our community life. Julie, Amanda, and Anita are three of those unique individuals who have dedicated hours of their time to volunteer in the community. I was delighted to hand over to them the Town Council’s highest award, a Scroll of Honour, in recognition of their commitment and service to the community over many years. Congratulations!”
