Ferryhill, West Cornforth and Chilton Primary Schools are celebrating the fifth year of a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) partnership with The Ogden Trust, Durham University and Approach Too.
The Ogden Trust partnership has inspired pupils to embrace and engage in physics through partnership work with Durham University’s Dr Lorraine Coghill, Dr Jenny Search, Dr Pete Edwards and Business Durham.
As well as inspiring pupils, the partnership provides ‘Phizzi’ Continuing Professional Development days for teachers from the schools.
The training covers the four main areas of the physics curriculum in Key Stage 2.
It addresses common misconceptions and provides a comprehensive teacher guide of ten investigations to support scientific enquiry.
A resource box worth £250, linked to the investigations, is also included for each school to encourage ongoing practical science.
The primary science CPD programme is designed to increase confidence in tackling practical science, improve subject knowledge, and support teachers in identifying and tackling pupil misconceptions.
