School raises funds for Mental Health Workshops

Pupils took part in challenges including decorating t-shirts and banners to promote and share the event.

On Friday, 14 June, Elemore Hall School in Windlestone hosted a fun run event to raise money for mental health and suicide prevention workshops for young people, along with the charity If You Care Share.

And despite the heavens opening at the start line and the majority of pupils and staff getting soaked, the event was reportedly a great success.

“The entire school took part and many laps of the school grounds were covered to raise money for the If You Care Share charity,” said English teacher, Gillian Rowntree.

“As well as running, pupils took part in boxing challenges, and in decorating banners and t-shirts to promote and share the event,” she added.

“Overall, as a school, we raised over £1,000, which will go towards providing mental health support to young people in school, which is a fantastic achievement for a small school like ours.

“The charity is thrilled with the school efforts and are visiting us next week to present a large cheque to pupils.”

A team from the charity helped host the event, in keeping with their principles.

The charity reaches some of the most vulnerable people in society to support them at a time of need.

They believe that educating future generations is key to changing cultures, which is why they also offer workshops to primary, secondary and educational establishments to equip our young people.

They also offer training and workshops based around themes of mental health and suicide prevention to professionals.

“Many young people suffer from mental health issues in school,” said Gillian, “and our pupils decided to take action along with staff to organise this worthwhile event.”
