Two flower bed projects in Spennymoor to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III have been planted after two local County Councillors put in requests to Durham County Council.
Councillor Pete Molloy identified the Grayson Road flower bed and Councillor Liz Maddison identified another on the approach road into Spennymoor, near Whitehouse Road. DCC’s Civic Pride team coordinated the project between DCC’s Clean and Green and the Head Teacher of Middlestone Moor Primary School and a date was set for 21 June for the pupils to help plant some of the bedding plants.
Head Teacher Gemma Richardson said: “I think it is an excellent idea for the children to get involved with things like this in the local community. It helps them to be proud of and take care of the community that they live in. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
On their return to school the children were very happy. They informed their Head Teacher that they really enjoyed planting the flowers and would get to see the flower bed whenever they went past it.
Councillor Molloy added: “I’m really happy that the pupils had an enjoyable experience planting the flowers and I would like to thank Mrs Richardson for agreeing to the school being involved, the Civic Pride team for coordinating the project and the Clean and Green team for doing an excellent job with the design and the planting the bedding plants.”
