A team of Bishop Auckland Rotarians were out in force with their collecting buckets on two days before Christmas beside their sleigh with Christmas Tree outside the Newgate Centre, Bishop Auckland.
The decorated tree was kindly provided by B&Q and President Graham Barsby provided festive music which entertained the folk in the town.
This year the money collected will be donated to three charities – Great North Air Ambulance Service, The Woodhouse Close Church Community Project and the Angel Trust.
Over the two days £833 was raised but this sum was augmented when John and Kath Yeomans completed their sponsored walk on Sunday 31 December.
Rotarian John and Kath, some members of their family and their three dogs walked from St. Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitley Bay to Admiral Lord Collingwood Statue, Tynemouth to raise extra funds for the three charities.
They managed to complete the 6.5 miles walk in two and a half hours in cold and windy conditions.
When they collect all their sponsorship money they hope to hand over £450 to the Rotary Club’s Treasurer Graham Barsby.
