Ferryhill Town Council is set to host two community Workshops with professional Sculptor, Andrew McKeon, to offer residents the opportunity of getting involved in designing a 4-meter-high miner’s lamp sculpture, to commemorate the mining heritage of Ferryhill.
Grant funding has been secured to enable the sculpture to be manufactured and installed on Surtees Corner, at Ferryhill Station.
The workshops will be held in the back room of the Surtees Arms public house, which is situated opposite the installation site, at: 2pm–4pm, on Wednesday, 5 March and 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, 12 March.
“Residents are very welcome to attend one or both workshops,” said a spokesperson.
“Capacity at the venue is limited therefore entry will be on a first come, first served basis.
“Separate workshops will also be taking place with children attending the local primary school,” they added.
Following the workshops, designs for the sculpture will be put on public display, to enable residents to make any final comments before it is manufactured.
