Residents and members of staff at Redworth House, which is based in Shildon and part of care home operator Bondcare, welcomed The Mayor of Shildon, Councillor Peter Quinn, for a fun open day, which raised £711.25 for extra treats for the residents.
Members of the community enjoyed the Greasethemed open day, which included a visit from the ‘Pink Ladies’ and ‘Sandy’, characters from the hitfilm, a bouncy castle, tombola, pony rides, face painting, refreshments and jewellery and cake stalls. There was also a raffle, whith prizes including a 19” Freeview TV with
built-in DVD player, DeWalt Drill, portable DVD player and many more.
Visitors were given the opportunity to take tours of the facilities and discuss the quality, specialist care available with members of staff.
Based on Byerley Road, Redworth House is a purpose built care home that provides care for 57 residents.
The home predominantly offers nursing and residential care for elderly residents including those with dementia, but has a third unit on site that accommodates
six residents with learning disabilities.
Redworth House aims to maintain lifestyles as similar as possible to those enjoyed at home, with an extensive range of activities which individuals can
enjoy and benefit from.
Joan McNeil, Manager at Redworth House, said: “It is important for our residents to feel part of the local community, so it was fantastic to see so many members of the public joining in with our open day.
“Everyone at Redworth House would like to thank Councillor Peter Quinn for taking the time to attend the event, which raised a great amount for our residents’
comfort fund and was the perfect opportunity for people to take a look around our specialist facilities and meet the members of staff.”
Meanwhile, the residents spent another afternoon reminiscing with the 1940’s show ‘We’ll Meet Again.’ Performed by The Vintage Scene, the show included a range of popular war-time songs, which residents enjoyed singing along to, including ‘Don’t sit under the apple tree’ and ‘There’ll always be an England.’
Residents also had the opportunity to look at original artefacts and memorabilia from the 1940s.
