We met Officers to discuss the Government’s £20 million funding for the Spennymoor project, writes Cllr Liz Maddison.
While we await more information from Central Government, Officers have outlined a plan. They indicate that a Cabinet report to approve Governance structures will be presented next February, followed by a Town Plan in Summer 2024.
No delays are expected for current agreed plans, including Festival Walk and Cheapside; the latter being subject to planning approval, with work starting in early 2024.
We attended Remembrance services at the Spennymoor Cenotaph on 11 and 12 November, as well as at Spennymoor, Tudhoe, and Byers Green Cenotaphs, with a significant turnout.
We met with officers from Clean and Green, Community Protection, and Neighbourhood Wardens to allocate our Member Neighbourhood funding for placing large boulders at strategic entrances to the Daisy Fields to prevent illegal encampments. We also discussed mobile CCTV and Police signs for bike-related issues.
We walked the public right of way through private woods opposite Mayfields. Some of our Member Neighbourhood funding is supporting the transformation of a mud track into a new pathway, to be maintained by the Town Council.
The Council’s Countryside Walks Team applied for funding to upgrade the bridleway surface from Rokeby Way to Howsham Road.
We are funding a Heritage 100 project for two six-mile circular routes in Spennymoor and Tudhoe Divisions, as mentioned in a previous Spennymoor News.
We are delighted that the first posts on the Spennymoor route will be installed near the Sensory Garden in Jubilee Park soon. To download the route visit the @Heritage100walks page on facebook.
An application for 300 new homes on Burton Woods (Phase 6) is pending a decision by the County Planning Committee, following consultation with statutory bodies and public input. To see more, visit the DCC Planning Portal and enter DM/23/03347/FPA as the planning reference.
Repairs to road surfaces on Carr Lane to High Street and Whitworth Terrace, identified by us, have been completed.
Next week, we will review areas in Spennymoor for potential ‘no parking’ restrictions, addressing concerns about school opening and closing times.
Flytipping remains an issue, with reported incidents on Greenways Estate and at Middlestone Moor.
