Durham County Council has partnered with Shildon Alive to host a Repair Café at their premises on Tuesday 12th December between 11am and 2pm.
“If you have a small electrical item that needs fixing, why not bring it along and they will attempt to fix it for free,” said Waste Strategy & Policy Officer, Kieran O’Leary.
“Most fixes can be done there and then, but if a larger fix is required we can take the item away and then arrange to return it at a time and place that suits you.
“In the run up to Christmas, this event will also be promoting ways to waste less food over the festive period.
“We’ll have a whole host of festive tips, tricks and recipes, as well as plenty of freebies.
“Did you know that well over four million Christmas dinners are thrown away every year – that’s equivalent to 263,000 turkeys, 7.5 million mince pies, 740,000 portions of Christmas pudding and 11.3 million roast potatoes!
“If you leave an item with us and have not heard from us after two weeks, please contact the repair team at wasteaware[@]durham[.]gov[.]uk.”
