A local pub has exceeded all expectations with their fundraising efforts, after a series of events that spanned a few days in June. The Red Lion pub were approached by Shildon resident Dale Robinson earlier in the year, as she looked to gain support for her trek and community work in India in October.
Landlord Paul Pears and regular customers pulled out all the stops to support Dale and Butterwick Hospice Care, through a weekend of activities.
Heatha Clarke received sponsorship to shave her hair, men took part in sponsored leg and chest waxes and there was a bake sale, raffles and pub tournaments.
The Red Lion handed over £1,651 to Dale, and the hospice commented, “This is a great example of community spirit, and everyone is amazed by the level of fundraising efforts by Paul and everyone at the pub. So much hard work went into their activities, and they should be extremely proud of themselves.”
Paul and Stephen would like to thank the staff from the Red Lion for all their help and support raising money for the Butterwick Hospice.
They would also like to thank Kirsty Wilson, Terri Race, Tracey Howe, Kelsie-May Hirst, Heather Sparks, Chantel Foreman, Ryan Metcalfe, Margaret Lawrence and David Priestley for taking part in a ‘Drop-Off’ and raising funds.
Thanks also go to Marie Glazier for doing the waxing and to Christopher Daines and other brave men for getting waxed, as well as Julie Walker and Maria Lupton for baking and selling cakes.
Local businesses in the town have been a great support in donating prizes, including Morrison’s, Dollheads, Linsley’s Butchers, Sweet Greetings, 1001 Bargains, Brian’s Pet Shop, Cheapside Chemist, M & M Chemist, Hancock & Ainsley’s Chemist and Bargain Booze.
