Shildon AFC added another nine goals to their recent freescoring form with home wins over Newcastle Blue Star and Northallerton Town in the past week.

The Railwaymen scored four for the third game in a row when Blue Star came to town on Saturday in a game which saw the sides share five goals in an explosive first half.

Alfie Steel (6) gave the hosts the lead with what is become a traditional early goal, but the side were pegged back within five minutes when Jakub Zych levelled on 11.

Two goals in a minute followed when first Connor Macleod put through his own goal to restore Shildon’s lead on 21 and Jack Blackford fired home to increase the advantage just 60 seconds later.

But the visitors weren’t done yet and the first half’s fifth goal in the opening 28 minutes came from the penalty spot with Zych converting to reduce the deficit to one.

After the frenetic start, the game settled down and while the single goal advantage meant the result remained on a knife-edge, it fell to Billy
Greulich-Smith to pop up in added time to score the 249th goal of his Shildon career to ensure the result would see all three points remaining at Dean Street.

A crowd of 290 turned up in midweek eager to witness the veteran striker, in his 15th year at the club, notch his milestone 250th goal, but while they may have been left waiting, there would have been little disappointment as the side went one better than recent games by putting five to no reply past the visiting Northallerton Town.

Instead of four goals in the game, Shildon treated their home support to four in the first half as they yet again raced to to put the game beyond doubt.

This time the task of delivering the early goal fell to Jack Blackford, who duly delivered in the fourth minute.

Leighton Harris doubled the lead in 20, and Alfie Steel all but secured the points four minutes later.

Notherallerton had no answer to the rampant Railwaymen and Ben Reay finished the first half deluge on 40 before adding his brace with twenty minutes remaining.

Shildon now prepare for a derby FA Cup Preliminary Round tie on Saturday at West Auckland and barring a replay, will travel the following Tuesday night to Newcastle to face Benfield.
