Shildon Railway Cricket Club 1st team suffered “one of those days” when the side was humiliated by local rivals Newton Aycliffe in the Darlington Building Society North Yorks & South Durham Premier Cricket League Division 2 fixture.
The Railwaymen had easily beaten their opponents in their previous meetings but on Saturday 16th July, at the Sportsfield, the side had no answer to Mark Woodhead, as the Australian bowler took 7 for 21.
Shildon crashed to 32 all out and the visitors cruised to a 9 wicket win in record time.
The defeat leaves Shildon in third place in the division.
On Saturday the team hopes to get back on track with a visit to Maltby.
On Sunday the club hosts a charity match between SG Petch and the Northern Echo, proceeds going to support the Butterwick Hospice (see page 7).
“This event is normally held at Bishop Auckland but this year we were asked if we could host it and we are proud to do so,” said a club spokesman.
The event starts at 12 noon with a bar, refreshments, face painting, bouncy castle and other stalls available alongside the cricket, in what should be a great day out for the family.
