Shildon AFC’s season in FA cup competitions came to an abrupt end as they exited the FA Vase after a 1-2 home defeat to Knaresborough Town, just a week after being knocked out of the FA Cup by local rivals, West Auckland Town.
The visitors took the lead through Cole Wildin in the 16th minute, but Shildon levelled the tie eight minutes into the second half when Jon Wiers tapped home from close range after a quick counter-attack. However, the home side’s celebrations lasted just four minutes as an equally sharp counter saw Don Creamer put through on goal to slot confidently past Mark Foden.
Shildon can now focus on their league campaign and catching up lost places in the table, albeit they are only three points off leaders, Bishop Auckland.
This weekend sees a trip to Ironworks Road to take on a struggling Tow Law Town, who occupy bottom spot in the table, having been subjected to some hefty defeats already this season.
