Shildon Railway Cricket teams at last enjoyed some proper cricket weather and celebrated with two emphatic wins last Saturday, reports John Brennan.
At SecuriCorp Park, in the North Yorks & South Durham Premier Cricket League Division 2 fixture, 5th placed Shildon hosted 4th placed Barnard Castle, who had already beaten the Railwaymen on three previous occasions this season, but who were a man short for this encounter.
Shildon won the toss and elected to field, and they soon had the visitors rocking. Ryan Nangle (2 for 18), Rob Nevison (3 for 9) and Joe Knowles (3 for 13) skittled the visitors all out for 83 in 26 overs. Although Shildon lost five wickets in achieving the win in the 28th over, victory never looked in doubt. Shildon remain in 5th place in a division where the top five teams are well clear of the pack.
The 2nd team, in 2nd place, visited 3rd placed King James, in the Darlington & District Cricket League Division C. The Railwaymen batted first and made 230 for 7 as Ash Raine shone in the sun, scoring a magnificent undefeated 113, ably supported by Shane Rowley who scored 50. King James fought hard and made 190 all out as Lawson, Young and Rowley each took three wickets.
Saturday sees the final games of a difficult season. The 1st team travel to Blackhall and the 2nd team are at home to King James knowing that they are guaranteed second place but awaiting other results to see if they will be promoted to Division B.
